Dublin

Found the large camp-site in Dublin that was open all year round; really nice place next to big park that was great for walking the dogs.

Discovered we had a tyre with a big split in it. So set about trying to locate a replacement. It seems that this is an unusual size and probably an original as no-one had heard of the size. In the end we had to wait as five new tyres were ordered to replace all the tyres to the same size 1 cm smaller!!

Went into Dublin centre for a rake round the shops. Parked near St Stephen’s Green and walked to Grafton Street and the Daisy Market. I got some new silver Celtic earrings and a box easel. Peter got a little dish aerial that enhances and directs wifi signals to boost the strength so we can pick up stronger internet connections. That has been the major problem with uploading the blog – not enough strong enough signals. We both bought a pair of good binoculars and a selection of green and black teas and coffee beans along with a cute teapot and bowls for me and a little tisane mug with a lid for Peter.

Peter told me about the famous ‘Dublin doors’ Georgian houses with different fanlight designs etc. I only managed to get a couple as we were passing as we kept forgetting to bring the camera!

We then went looking for Peter’s old haunts from when he lived and worked in Dublin; Rathfarnon, Rockbrooke up in the Dublin mountains. Here’s a view of Dublin bay from the mountains.

Did a spot of dog walking then went into this pub, the Merry Ploughboys in Rockbrooke.

We had saved having a pint of Guinness until Dublin to be nearer the source ! It 9 or more correctly they) was worth the wait!! They went down like mother’s milk , as they say! We asked the owner if we could stay in the carpark overnight so Peter could have another and we discovered that the pub was owned by a musical group of the same name and that they were having a musical night that night and we were invited. We had a meal first though at the pub which was famed for its good food. I had a seafood grill; salmon, scallops, mussels and cod. Peter had roast lamb. Gorgeous and well recommended if your ever in Dublin!

We went upstairs to the little theatre/stage area and watched a great performance of traditional Irish music with intervals of ‘River Dance’ style Irish dancing. I went up to the bar to get another couple of pints of Guinness and when I went to pay the waitress told me that she had no till that night as it was a work’/business function night and all pre-paid so she couldn’t take my money!! Had we fallen asleep and were dreaming! All this and free Guinness!! We weren’t greedy though and only had another pint each after that. This is a poster style placemat that we got with our meal.

We liked this lorry that was in front of us in Dublin!
